There are certain foods that should be avoided if you have a fructan intolerance:

Low-FODMAP: nutritional method without fructans

The low-FODMAP method is a scientifically based nutritional concept that has been specially developed for people with symptoms of fructan intolerance and irritable bowel syndrome.

FODMAP stands for fermentable oligo-, di-, monosaccharides and polyols - short-chain carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine. These carbohydrates reach the large intestine undigested, where they are fermented by bacteria and can cause symptoms such as flatulence and abdominal pain.

The diet is divided into three phases: An elimination phase of 4 to 6 weeks, a reintroduction phase and a subsequent customised FODMAP-reduced diet.
