Maltitol (E965) belongs to the group of sugar alcohols and is mainly used in sugar-free and low calorie foods, for example, in chocolate. One reason for its use is the significantly lower calorie content of 2,4kcal /g compared to sucrose (table sugar). The reason for the lower calorie content is that maltitol is a nearly indigestible carbohydrate: the lower the ratio of food that can be absorbed by the body, the lower the calorie content. It also has a laxative and flatulent effect, especially when consumed in large quantities. The effect thus is similar to the effect of fructose on people with Fructose Malabsorption. Therefore, we do not offer products on the basis of maltitol.
