Symptoms of histamine intolerance

The most common symptoms of histamine intolerance include:

  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Racing heart
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Circulation problems
  • Flushing (redness of the face, neck, and possibly upper body)
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Swelling
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
  • Gas
  • Diarrhea

Since histamine intolerance is considered a "pseudo-allergy," anaphylactic shock can occur in the worst cases.

Not only is the range of symptoms great, but so are their manifestations. Some sufferers may experience only a slight runny nose after the consumption of histamine-rich foods, while others may suffer from severe stomach cramps and major circulatory problems.

Frusano carefully tests each batch of food declared histamine-free for presence of the histamine protein. Those affected can verify which of our products are histamine-free by looking for the histamine-free label for food sold in our shop. For these products, we have also carried out storage tests in order to keep the risk for consumers as low as possible.

In general, we recommend careful testing of each individual's tolerance threshold.
